Tallqvist was responsible for the full contract execution of a new roundabout in the Halkokari area of Kokkola. The project was carried out in phases between spring and autumn 2020. The first stage included the construction of an access road to the nearby event park. This was followed by the construction of a temporary bypass and a new intersection in the direction of Halkokari. Once these elements were completed, the final roundabout was built in stages.

To minimize disruptions to traffic, parts of the construction were carried out at night. Traffic arrangements were particularly challenging due to the frequent passage of special transports in the area, such as wind turbine blades transported from the nearby industrial zone. Thanks to careful planning and execution, the roundabout was built safely and in a controlled manner.

The completed roundabout has significantly improved traffic flow and safety in the area. It has made it easier for heavy vehicles and special transports to pass through, and it ensures smoother traffic with more consistent vehicle speeds. This reduces the risk of rear-end collisions and other hazardous situations. Additionally, the roundabout contributes to lower noise and emissions by reducing the need for braking and accelerating compared to traditional signal-controlled intersections.

The project was completed on schedule and with high quality, reinforcing Tallqvist’s position as a reliable partner in infrastructure construction.
